Rain and thunder all
night but this AM it's quiet, dry, foggy and humid. Our first order of business
once we were out and about was to go to the electronics store which we managed
to find with no problem and miracle of miracles, they had the cord/charger
thing we needed.
We decided to head
toward Florence, deep in Chianti country and a couple of hours away. Dick had
stayed in Panzano, a tiny town about an hour out of Florence, about 20 years
ago and wanted to revisit it so that was our destination. We took the scenic
route through small winding roads through the beautiful Chianti countryside.
Fall is just beginning with some yellows and a few of the grape vines turning
red so it is really beautiful.
We reached Panzano
about the time that we needed to have some lunch. We walked by the most famous
butcher shop perhaps in the world, owned by Dario Cecchini who is famous for
the quality meats that he sells. On the weekends, the butcher shop puts out some
free snacks (though there is a jar for donations) and there is quite a crowd
out front. We looked inside, didn't partake of snacks because it would have
meant fighting the crowd and the snacks were pretty decimated when we were
there.
We found a wine bar and had a lunch of good pasta and some nice Chianti,
hit the gelateria for some dessert and were ready to begin the trip back home.

We went home a
completely different route but still had the gorgeous countryside all the way
back. It was around 6 when we made it home….time for the old folks to settle in
for the evening.
